GEERTS Ellen
Ellen Geerts studied at the Academy of Visual Education in Tilburg.
She finds inspiration for her landscapes in South Limburg, Tuscany, Provence, South England and Terschelling. His work is on the border of figuration and abstraction. Geerts' paintings derive both depth and recognizability of performance from his use of color. Warm tones and capricious brushwork reinforce each other and guarantee a colorful and melodic tone in mutual consistency. She works layer by layer with loose dry paint. The underlying layers then have an effect on the top layer.
The compositions are precise and overflowing with vitality. Despite the vivid painting style, they never become theatrical or pathetic. For the artist, it is a question of transferring moods and even more of evoking experiences.
Ellen Geerts moves decisively between the imagination of perceived reality and a translation, an emotional interpretation. The dynamics, balance, color experience, rhythm, brush and painting skin provide information about the personal experience of the landscape. The strong focus on land and vegetation is remarkable. Air and water play a less important role. The world of experience that manifests in Geerts' work is revealed in subtle shading, poetic writing, and warm use of color; elements that give the painting a soul. The end result is the result of a creative process that consists of constant considerations and reconsiderations. The process of painting, repainting, adding and removing produces pasty canvases.
Reflections series: Ellen zoomed in on the subject; reflection. nature, air and environment meet at the surface of the water. Layering occurs in both the treatment of the subject and the painting.
